Husky week for beginners

Day 1: Welcome to North Karelia!

There is a scheduled flight to Joensuu, Kuopio or Kajaani, depending on the flight connection. Your German-speaking host will be waiting for you at the airport. This is followed by the transfer to the Wilderness Lodge and moving into your room in the cozy lodge. At dinner together, guests and hosts get to know each other and the program for the next few days is discussed.

Day 2: Husky introductory tour

The first dog sled tour with your own vehicle is an unforgettable experience! After breakfast you will be given warm overalls and boots and will learn the art of tobogganing during a detailed briefing. Then your first dog sled tour starts through the white winter world. You will quickly notice that handling the sled is not difficult and you will be carried away by the enthusiasm of the dogs, which are now in their element.

Day 3: Husky day tour

After you have already gained some experience with the dog sled, you can go on a great sled tour of approx. 30 km in length today. During the dog sled tours, no snowmobiles are used to accompany you, so you can experience total peace and quiet and enjoy the beauty of nature undisturbed. There will be a small snack break along the way.

Day 4: Snowshoe hike in the nature reserve  

Today there is a short break from dog sledding and you can enjoy the wonderful winter landscape on a guided snowshoe hike. After a short transfer by car, you reach the Änäkäinen nature reserve near the Russian border. The 3 small lakes are embedded in a primeval moraine landscape and swamp and moor areas. The tour takes you around and across the lakes, past ancient pine trees. Depending on the thickness of the snow cover, traces of earlier forest fires, slash-and-burn operations and the Winter War can also be seen. Lunch will be served around the campfire along the way.

Day 5: Husky day tour  

The dogs are looking forward to the next excursion at least as much as you and can hardly wait to be harnessed to the sled. As soon as it starts, calm returns. Then all you can hear is the crunching of the runners on the snow and the panting of the contented dogs. On two other day tours you will experience the fascination of winter that is only possible in this latitude. You will experience unforgettable moments in harmony with nature and the irrepressible forward drive of the sled dogs. If you would like an even more intense wilderness experience, you can optionally extend this day tour to a 2-day tour with an overnight stay in a wilderness cabin. (see extra services).

Day 6 -7: Time - a forgotten luxury

You have time to review the past few days, to relax and to explore the winter landscape on your own. Cross-country skis and snowshoes are at your free disposal. On request, a snowmobile excursion or a relaxing massage can be organized (on request).

On the last evening, enjoy a convivial dinner at the lodge, where there are sure to be many stories to tell. Let the evening end comfortably by the fireplace.

Day 8: Farewell to friends   

After an eventful and yet relaxed husky week for beginners, say goodbye to your new 2- and 4-legged friends. Transfer to the airport and return flight.
